Because every lithophane is handcrafted from real porcelain, each piece has its own subtle artisanal character and charm.
For the colored lithophanes, we take it to another level! We hand apply a ceramic underglaze coloring to the back of the porcelain, while lit so we can see the placement of the color. We then fire the piece a second time, to permanently fuse the color to the porcelain. The color then gently diffuses through the porcelain, and combines with the shading produced by the thicknesses to give the image a truly photographic realism. It adds yet another dimension of beauty to this amazing art!
